The short list of nominees has been announced for the seven award categories of the prestigious annual Considerate Hoteliers Association (CHA) ‘Considerate Hotel of the Year Awards 2011/12’ – celebrating the best in environmental, sustainable and socially responsible performance and open to all UK hotels and small accommodation operations. Now the nominees will be battling out to see who will be the winners – to be publicly announced and presented at the CHA Awards Gala Lunch on 31 May at the 5-star Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane.
EDINBURGH ORGANISATIONS FIRST TO ACHIEVE TOUGH CARBON CUTS

Edinburgh Airport and Edinburgh Napier University have become the first organisations to pass the Carbon Masters Standard, an emissions reduction scheme which sets the UK’s most challenging targets for cutting greenhouse gas output. The scheme, developed by Carbon Masters, an Edinburgh-based consultancy and administered in Scotland, goes further than any of the seven carbon emissions reduction and certification schemes run by organisations south of the border, all of which are based on levels set by the Carbon Trust.

Householders should invest in solar, say Good Energy and Greenpeace
The Solar Trade Association welcomed Secretary of State Ed Davey’s confirmation that DECC will be delaying the next round of cuts to the Feed-in Tariff for solar PV. Energy Minister Greg Barker said that this decision was the result of “listening carefully to industry”.
